Jamath’s Initiatives to Make Marriages Simple – Glimpses from History     Allah Ta‘ala has blessed us with the gift of Imaan and Islam. As Muslims, we are guided by the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah in every aspect of life. Nikah, a Sunnah of all the Prophets, was made simple in Islam. However, over time, due to prevailing customs and lavish practices, marriages have become difficult and burdensome.     For nearly two hundred years, our town’s Jamath has played a vital role in safeguarding social values. With the support of the Ulama, social workers, and the public, the Jamath closely observed social practices and issued guidelines whenever unhealthy trends emerged. Those who violated these guidelines were held accountable, ensuring discipline and unity within the community.       The foundation of the Jamath’s success has been on two basic principles. One is inviting towards good deeds and preventing evil and the other one has been s...

MELVISHARAM- A TOWN OF GARDENS

Gardens of Melvisharam –                               A Glimpse into the Green Past   Gardens are places of refreshment and recreation, and they play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance. Melvisharam was once known as a town of gardens. The settlement was established during the 17th century (1600–1700). The town was previously known as Uppupettai (Melvisharam), an area comprising Dargah Street, Big Mosque Street, and Big Street. It is said that salt used for tanning was stocked and sold here, and it was this population that constructed the Big Mosque. The natives of Uppupettai were primarily agriculturalists. They cultivated paddy, groundnut, betel leaves, indigo, greens, vegetables, and fruits. Parallel to Melvisharam, there was a large garden named Naulakh Bagh, established by Nawab Sadathullah Khan in 1703 CE. Fo...
