Glimpses of Jamath's guidelines for marriage from the past

Jamath’s Initiatives to Make Marriages Simple – Glimpses from History

Allah Ta‘ala has blessed us with the gift of Imaan and Islam. As Muslims, we are guided by the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah in every aspect of life. Nikah, a Sunnah of all the Prophets, was made simple in Islam. However, over time, due to prevailing customs and lavish practices, marriages have become difficult and burdensome.

For nearly two hundred years, our town’s Jamath has played a vital role in safeguarding social values. With the support of the Ulama, social workers, and the public, the Jamath closely observed social practices and issued guidelines whenever unhealthy trends emerged. Those who violated these guidelines were held accountable, ensuring discipline and unity within the community.

The foundation of the Jamath’s success has been on two basic principles. One is inviting towards good deeds and preventing evil and the other one has been strengthening unity. As long as these principles are upheld, peace and harmony will prevail. In recent months, the Ulama and the Jamath have been deeply concerned about extravagant marriage customs. To address this, the Aasan Nikah movement has been strengthened through awareness programs and motivational speeches.

On 21st March 2026, on the occasion of Eidul fitr at eidgah, the Jamath issued fresh guidelines to simplify marriages. It was circulated in social media also.

While these are known to many, it is equally important to look back at earlier initiatives. The following glimpses from history show how the Jamath has consistently worked to make marriages simple and safeguard the moral fabric of our town.

Similarly, since 2022, the Jamath has been arranging Nikah counselling programs to guide couples before marriage. These compulsory programs aim to make married life happier and more peaceful. Mufti Abdul Hameed Sahib conducts regular classes every Saturday at the Melvisharam Big Mosque, while separate sessions for brides are held at the residence of Mana Muna Junaid Sahib.
For married couples, Husn-e-Mu‘āshirat programs are conducted on the first Saturday of every month at Masjid-e-Khizar to promote harmonious family life.
