MALACK KHIZAR HUSSAIN SAHIB- Melvisharam

                   MALACK KHIZAR HUSSAIN SAHIB -

ONE WHO FEARED NONE, FAVOURED ALL

Among the great personalities produced by Melvisharam, the name of Malack Khizar Hussain Sahib is remembered with deep respect and admiration. A man of simplicity, integrity, charity, and unwavering faith in Almighty Allah, he dedicated his life not only to business excellence but also to the service of religion, education, and humanity. His life truly  suited  the phrase: “One who feared none, favoured all.”

Early Life

Malack Khizar Hussain Sahib was born in 1902 to Malack Abdul Wahab Sahib at Melvisharam. He was very obedient to his parents and had a humble beginning. Hard work, patience, honesty, integrity, righteousness, and trust in Allah raised him to greater heights.

Business

In 1955, he stepped into the leather business along with his partner, Janab Arcot Mohammed Ismail Sahib. Both flourished in trade for the next seven years. As time passed, they realised that their children had grown up and that it would be better to separate their businesses. They sat together after the Asr prayer and divided everything before Maghrib, after which they came to the mosque to offer prayers. While many people outside were anxiously waiting for conflicts and disputes, everything was settled smoothly without the interference of others.

In 1963, he bought his own tannery at Ranipet and named it M. A. Khizar Hussain and Sons. He first constructed a mosque in his tannery.

He implemented all that he had learnt over four decades in his firm. Khizar Hussain Sahib went about putting in place the most sophisticated equipment available at the time. M. A. Khizar Hussain Sahib had a very simple but effective motto: Put Quality Above All Else. This motto remains true for all industries today and helped the KH Group reach the top.

He was also an active member of SITDA and AISHTMA.

As Almighty Allah blessed him with wealth, he spent it generously on the poor and needy.

Association with Ulama

He had great regard for the Ulama and spent much time in their company. He had a very close connection with Hazrath Moulana Hussain Ahmed Madani Rah, Hazrath Moulana Qari Tayyib Sahib Rah. Hazrath Moulana Hafiz Abus Sawood Sahib Rah, Hazrath Moulana Hafiz Mohammed Ibrahim Sahib Rah Bilinchpuri Hazrath Moulana Nayyar Rabbani Sahib Rah. and Hazrath Moulana Hafiz Hyder Abdul Azeez Sahib Rah.

Earlier, his brother-in-law, Janab Chinmeera Fakheer Mohammed Sahib, invited Qari Tayyib Sahib Rah for the first time to Melvisharam in 1954 for the Islamiah High School Meelad function. After his demise, Janab Khizar Hussain Sahib became his host. Qari Sahib stayed at 'Thyub Manzil' (Janab Chinmeera Fakheer Mohammed Sahib’s home) at Big Street. During his stay, the public and Ulama would spend hours in Hazrath’s enlightened gatherings.

Services

I am informed through reliable sources that  Khizar Hussain Sahib  had built 50 to 70  mosques under the guidance of Hazrath Moulana Hafiz Hyder Abdul Azeez Sahib Rah.

If I say Janab Khizar Hussain Sahib was a builder of mosques, it would not be an exaggeration. As we know, the hearts of our elders were filled with ikhlas, and they did not disclose their charitable deeds. It is difficult to enlist all the mosques he built.

In 1965, the C. Abdul Hakeem College was established in the AMI Orphanage building by the Melvisharam Muslim Educational Society. He was one of the founding members of the college. Later, it was shifted to its present location in 1970. There arose a need for a mosque on the campus. To fulfil this need, Janab Khizar Hussain Sahib came forward and constructed a beautiful mosque, which was declared open in April 1972. Later, it was renovated and expanded twice by MMES.

Continuing his legacy the MMES established  a madarsa in the same mosque in 1997 and  named Madarsa E Umar. It  continues to function successfully. After the demise of Janab Malack Mohammed Hashim Sahib, the mosque was named Masjid E Malack Mohammed Hashim in his memory on 9th September 2025.

In 2003, I visited a mosque at Rounaq Nagar, a place near Damalcheruvu in Chittoor district. I was informed by the Imam Sahib (  who was a student of Hyder Abdul Azeez Sahib Rah.) of the mosque that this mosque at Rounaq Nagar had also been constructed by Khizar Hussain Sahib. It is to be noted that a new branch of Madarsa E Baqiyathus Salihath was established in the same place in 2010 by his able son, Janab Malack Mohammed Hashim Sahib.

During a visit to Odagathur in 2019, the natives of Niyamandapuram, on learning that I was a resident of Melvisharam, took me to a mosque and told me that it had been constructed by Khizar Hussain Sahib.

He served as the Joint Secretary of MMES from 1964 to 1976. In 1969, the Golden Jubilee of MMES was celebrated. He adorned the stage with his presence along with Mr. K. Karunanidhi, P. Shanmugam, S. M. Abdul Jameel Sahib, V. Abdul Haseeb Sahib, V. Khaleelur Rahman Sahib, and other distinguished members.

He was one of the prominent members of Anjuman E Falah E Millath (Millath Anjuman), which cared for the socio-economic well-being of the people of Melvisharam for nearly four decades. One of the major contributions of this Anjuman was the establishment of Millath Hospital during the 1950s.

Khizar Hussain Sahib was also associated with Anjuman E Ansaarul Islam, which supervises Madarsa E Niswan, an exclusive madarsa for girls. During his tenure of service, he improved the finances of the madarsa. Carrying forward his legacy, his elder daughter, the wife of Arcot Ahmed Basha Sahib, also served the madarsa with dedication for more than 40 years.

Khizar Hussain Sahib also served as Joint Secretary of Madarsa E Baqiyathus Salihath until 1976. During his tenure, the centenary celebrations of the madarsa were held from 30 November to 2 December 1974. One of the resolutions passed by the managing committee during the centenary celebrations was the establishment of a printing press at the madarsa. He generously donated printing machines worth Rs. 50,000 for this purpose and it was  named Baqiyath Centenary PressHe was closely linked with Madarsa E Manbaul Hasanath, Melvisharam.

In 1976, he started Madarsa E Mifthahul Uloom in Melvisharam, which later progressed into an Arabic college under the leadership of his son, Janab Malack Mohammed Hashim Sahib. By now, the institution has completed 50 years of noble service in Islamic education.

When Hazrath Qari Mohammed Thyub Sahib Rah. mentioned the need for a generator for the madarsa e Darul Uloom, Deoband, the estimated cost was around ₹1,50,000. In this regard, a meeting was held in Madras  , attended by Hazrat Maulana Nayyar Rabbani Sahib, , Mr. V. Haseeb-ur-Rehman Sahib, Mr. V. Khalil-ur-Rehman Sahib, and other dignitaries.

When an appeal for contributions was made, Khizar Hussain Sahib was the first to pledge ₹25,000. Inspired by his generosity, the other members also participated enthusiastically some contributing ₹15,000 and others ₹10,000. Within just two days, instead of the expected ₹1,50,000, a remarkable sum of ₹3,00,000 was collected.

When the amount was presented to Hazrat Qari Mohammed Thyub Sahib, he expressed his surprise and said, “I had requested only ₹1,50,000. Why did you all take upon yourselves such a heavy burden?” The members replied that it was their humble gift and a draft of ₹3,00,000 was then presented to Hazrat.

Khizar Hussain Sahib was one of the prominent members of Ahle Sunnath Lababeen Jamath. Also, an executive member of MEASI.

Conclusion

It was the tradition of our town’s elders that when Almighty Allah blessed them with wealth, they generously spent it in the path of Allah and comforted the poor and needy, thereby earning permanent and continuous reward for eternal life.

He passed away on 3 February 1976, leaving behind a legacy that continues to be carried forward by his heirs.

Upholding his vision, his son Janab Malack Mohammed Hashim Sahib constructed a beautiful building for the Mifthahul Uloom Madarsa in 1983. Similarly, in 1989,  he constructed a  beautiful mosque and named it after his father as Masjid E Khizar. Also established a locality (Mohalla) as Khizarabad adjacent to the mosque.

Hazrath Moulana Hafiz Mufti Puttu Mohammed Abubakkar Sahib (DBM) says:

“In 1989, my father, late Puttu Mohammed Zackria Sahib, (alias) Puttu Ameer bhai proposed to  Malack Abdul Haleem Sahib (Younger son of KhizarHussainSahib) for the construction of a mosque near Madarsa-e-Ma’hadul Uloom at Palamaner. He instantly accepted the proposal, constructed the mosque, and named the mosque after his mother’s name as Masjid-e-Umme Salma .”

A few years back, my father’s uncle, Janab Sakvai Abdullah Basha Sahib, a resident of Khizarabad who had worked under Khizar Hussain Sahib for a long time, He said, "Badey yajmaan ke bahut saare qidmaat mai jaanta hun. Kabhi waqtlekar ghar aajao sub sunaun ga' meaning 'he knew many of his master’s charitable services and asked me to visit his home during my free time'. Unfortunately, I did not make use of that opportunity before he passed away.

The following sources were immensely helpful in compiling this article: History of Leather Industries in Vellore District published by Ambur Trade Centre in 2010, the Safeer annual magazines of Madarsa-e-Baqiyathus Salihath, Al Hakeem magazine of C. Abdul Hakeem College, Melvisharam, and the recently published book Ek Valisifat Tajir: Malack Mohammed Hashim Ke Hayat aur Khidmat. I express my sincere gratitude to the authors and compilers of these remarkable works.

I also request readers to kindly notify me incase of corrections and also share additional information regarding the services and contributions of Khizar Hussain Sahib.
