M. J. Sayeed Sahib Bids Farewell
M. J. Sayeed Sahib- A legendary
figure- Bids Farewell to People of
Melvisharam
M. J.
Sayeed Sahib served the Islamiah High School, Melvisharam, efficiently for two decades in two
different tenures (1923-1926 and 1934-1947).
In 1947, Janab M.J. Sayeed Sahib, the Headmaster received an invitation from his brother in law Dr. Abdul Haq to serve as Vice Principal at Usmania College, Kurnool. Later he was appointed as the first principal of Jamal Mohammed College, Trichy in 1951.
With the consent of the Melvisharam Muslim Educational Society, he was relieved from the school.
When he
left Melvisharam in 1947, a farewell gathering was organised, participated by
members of the management, teachers, and the Melvisharam public. On this
occasion, the entire town was unwilling to let him go out of their beloved soil.
They were mourning, some were wailing, and others were crying at the farewell
function. In this farewell function, students recited poems expressing their
pain of separation from their beloved teacher.
When he came to
deliver his farewell address, he himself could not control his emotions. He
declared that Melvisharam his native place and promised to visit it whenever
he found leisure time. A man of values and self-discipline, who had run the
institution on high standards, strictly adhering to the principles of its
founders. His service had left an ever lasting impact on the people of Melvisharam. Even today his disciples recall him in high esteem.
There is much to write on this great personality. But I confine with this memoir. Readers interested to know more about Sayeed Sahib can refer to a souvenir published on his birth centenary in 2005 or 2006 by JMC.
